The deadlines for key actions in the 3M and DuPont PFAS settlements are quickly approaching. These settlements are part of a class-action lawsuit addressing contamination of public water systems with harmful chemicals. Many qualifying public water systems failed to file claims in Phase One. This means they released 3M and DuPont from liability but will receive no compensation.

Court Ordered Settlement Deadlines
The deadline to submit the Phase One Claims have passed. However, there is time to make claims if you are a Phase Two listed Public Water System. Make sure to act quickly if you are eligible. The following deadlines apply to both the 3M and DuPont settlements:
January 1, 2026 Phase Two Testing Claims Form
January 1, 2026 Phase Two Baseline Testing
July 31, 2026 Phase Two Action Fund Claims Form
August 1, 2026 Phase Two Special Needs Claims Form
Next Steps for Class Members
If you represent a public water system and not yet taken action, here are your options:
- Submit a Claim: The deadline to submit claims by Phase One qualifying water systems has passed. If you are a Phase Two public water system you still have time to perform testing and file a claim.
- Missed Opt-Out Deadlines: The deadlines to opt out, object, or withdraw from the settlements have passed. If you opted out and need clarification, you can contact the Notice Administrator at pfassettlement@angeiongroup.com.
- Do Nothing: If you take no action, you will not receive a payment and will lose the right to pursue separate claims. You will release 3M and DuPont from all liability for any damages they caused your water sources and system.
Settlement Benefits and Payments
The settlement funds are substantial. 3M has agreed to a fund of $12.5 billion, while DuPont has set aside $1.185 billion. These funds will cover approved claims, administration costs, court fees, and attorneys’ fees. After these expenses, the remaining funds will be distributed proportionally among class members who submit valid claims.
Final Settlement Approval
The courts have granted final approval for both settlements. For DuPont, the effective date was April 17, 2024, while the 3M settlement took effect on May 6, 2024. To review the court documents, you can visit the official settlement websites:
