Recent & Important Updates
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is an independent federal regulatory agency which oversees the safety of most consumer products. Similarly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is a federal agency which oversees transportation safety. Below are important recalls and safety notifications from these agencies.

Subaru Outback and Legacy Sedans
Subaru discovered a faulty airbag issue. As a result, Subaru is recalling over 100,000 Outback and Legacy sedans. Specifically, a faulty sensor can prevent the front airbag from inflating during a crash.
Outback and Legacy sedans manufactured between 2020 and 2022 are subject to the recall. Vehicle owners will receive a recall notice in the mail informing them of next steps. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Cadillac Lyriq Electric Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating potential brake problems in Cadillac Lyriq electric vehicles. The agency received numerous reports of “Brake System Failure” messages appearing on dashboards. Subsequently, GM, the manufacturer of Cadillacs, realized that the brake assist feature may be faulty.
There has not been a recall of Lyriq electric vehicles because the vehicle meets all federal brake performance standards even without brake assist. However, GM has prepared an over-the-air update to alert drivers if they risk losing brake assist. Approximately 3,000 vehicles manufactured in 2023 may be affected.
Black + Decker Garment Steamers
Empower Brands L.L.C. is recalling over 1.5 million Black + Decker Easy Garment Steamers because they pose a burn hazard to users. The steamers can spray or leak hot water which may burn users. The manufacturer received over 300 reports of burn injuries as a result of using the steamers.
The recalled steamers were sold nationwide at major retailers like Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Target. Additionally, they were sold online at Amazon. The manufacturer recommends consumers stop using the recalled steamers immediately and contact the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Air Fryers
Over three million air fryers have been recalled due to safety concerns. Various brands including Insignia, Empower Brands, Secura, Cosori, and Magic Chef have issued recalls. The recalls stem from reports of the products overheating. Overheating can lead to fire and glass shattering, which in turn increases the risk of burns and lacerations.
If you have any of the products mentioned above, contact the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
