Currently the EPA does not have any limits on PFAS, a class of “forever chemicals” known to cause serious illness such as cancer. These chemicals are used to make materials resistant to water, stains, and heat and are known as forever chemicals because they don’t ever fully break down. Since in recent years, it has become clear that these chemicals are both extremely harmful and fairly widespread, calls to regulate or ban them have grown. This has spurred the EPA to consider regulating the chemicals more heavily at the federal level since there are currently only state level laws relating to them.
