DEC to study if Wheatfield landfill contaminants are ‘moving off-site’

Seventy-two (72) notices of claims have been filed on behalf of Stag Liuzza clients from North Tonawanda, NY against the neighboring city of Wheatfield. The claims include Wheatfield’s failure to protect them from the toxic and hazardous contaminates that continue to migrate from the Niagara Sanitation Landfill and onto their property and into their homes. Now, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is set to begin an investigation to ”define the nature and extent of contamination in soil, surface water, groundwater and any other parts of the environment that may be affected” by the landfill.
